Our Best Season Yet

It has been a good week for the yard both on and off the track.

We rounded of November with 3 winners, a fantastic result as November has always been a notoriously quiet month for the yard. Following on from Gweedore’s success at Musselburgh, Concert Boy won under a peach of a ride from Jason at Newcastle and a day later Orbital Chime scored in the hands of Kaiya Fraser at Southwell. Both winners carried the silks of Making Headway Racing who have been a fantastic time of things recently both with their horses here and with the couple they have based in Yorkshire at Ivan Furtado’s.

December has kicked off with some promising results to. Concert Boy being the star of the show notching up 2 seconds and a win in the space of 7 days, a true testament to a horse who just loves his job and racing. Gressington put in a promising run at Newcastle to finish a very close 4th, a horse with loads of ability that will hopefully be seen in the winners enclosure very soon.

Concert Boy’s win last night cemented 2025 as our best season to date with 19 winners on the board for the year so far, it would be amazing to get to 20 but we will see. We do not have a huge amount of runners left for the year now. The 35 seconds are a bit painful to look at but a sign that the horses have ran consistently well throughout the season.

At home we have been busy working away with the youngstock. We still have 2 unraced 2yos in the shape of Kitty and Katie who are progressing nicely at home and on track for a racecourse early 2026. They were both bred locally at Newhall Estate by Clive Ashby and we cant wait to see them on track.

We also have 4 lovely yearlings on the go. The team on the yard have done an amazing job with them and they are now all cantering away.

Next season is definitely looking exciting!

Another highlight of the past week was attending the prestigious ROA Awards at The Royal Lancaster Hotel in London. Our amazing Luna was nominated for the Flat Horse Special Achievement Award, she didn’t scoop the prize but it was amazing night with her owners celebrating a great season. A great way to sign of an amazing year for her.

A great night at The ROA Awards
